Horn: ‘It’s likely I’ll run again’

County Republican Committee’s event “The New N.H. GOP — The future of our
party, a strategy session for Cheshire County.”

In the four months since Jennifer M. Horn lost in her bid for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, the Republican from Nashua has returned to a more normal life, to her husband and five children, to her
work with community and charitable groups.

“Before I ran for office, I was not accustomed to having time on my hands,” Horn said Saturday in an
interview with The Sentinel. “Those first couple of weeks after the campaign,
when I really kind of felt like I had nothing to do, were odd. But it was good.
I got a lot of rest, and my family and I spent a lot of time
together.”

Horn, who hosted a radio talk show on WSMN from 2006 to 2008, said she is set to return to the airwaves April 6 on the same
station.

Earlier this year, Rep. Paul W. Hodes, the Concord Democrat who defeated Horn in November to retain his seat, announced that he will run for
U.S. Senate in 2010.

Horn has been mentioned as a potential candidate for Senate or for the 2nd District U.S. House seat.

She sat down with The Sentinel to discuss her possible role in the 2010
election.

u Question:

Are you considering running for office in 2010?

Answer:

“I am absolutely, very seriously considering a run, yes. I honestly have not made a real, absolute decision. It
will depend on a lot of things. It depends on how things unfold during 2009.
It’ll depend on my family, on where we are when the time comes.

“But I am very seriously considering a run. I continue to believe that Paul Hodes and his
policies are bad for New Hampshire. That doesn’t mean that I’m saying I’m going
to run for Senate against Paul Hodes. It just means I think Paul Hodes is really
bad for our state. I think he’s doing a bad job.

“On Election night, one of the things I said was, ‘Paul Hodes has to watch out, because we’re going to
watch him, and we’re going to hold him accountable.’ I take that commitment very
seriously, and I’m going to continue to do that.

“But that doesn’t mean, as a lot of people have tried to suggest, that I’m going to run against Paul
Hodes for Senate. I’m more strongly considering a run for the House, but I have
not decided against anything. It is highly likely I’ll run, but it is not
definite.”

u Question:

You mentioned that your family will play a part in whether you decide to run for office in 2010. What else will you need to
consider?

Answer:

“Family is always the big part. Luckily for us, running for office has been a very positive experience.

“Money is part of it. Knowing you’ve got the support. I’m fairly confident that I have the support
of the voters in the district, because everywhere I go, I’m welcomed very
much.

“I get phone calls and e-mails, honestly, every day from people saying, ‘We’re ready to go when you are.’ I’m grateful for that. That’s very
nice.

“Money’s a big thing. People look at our (Federal Election Commission) reports and think I’m $200,000 in debt. That’s my money. That’s not
debt. That’s not money I ever expected to see again.

“The question is, ‘Can I raise what is needed to move forward and run a good campaign in 2010?’
I’m pretty confident that I can, based again on commitments that have been made
to me and the folks that have reached out to me.

“Money’s a consideration, but each day that passes I’m feeling more and more confident that
we can do what we need to do.”

u Question:

Have you set a deadline for when you want to make your choice?

Answer:

“No, I really haven’t. When the time is right. When I feel confident that I’ve got all the
information I need and I’m making the best decision.

“Quite honestly, I think a lot of the talk about it is pretty premature. There’s a long road ahead
of us, and there’s a lot that we need to accomplish between now and
then.”
